Arkansans For Medical Cannabis
http://www.gozarks.com/a4mc/ are mounting a drive to enact legislation
which frees Arkansans to access cannabis as a medicinal therapy without
fear of arrest or prosecution. They deserve the full and active support of
ArkNorml.
According to the THE ARKANSAS MEDICINAL
CANNABIS ACT OF 2011 a person who has been medically qualified by a Health
Care Practitioner as authorized under ACA 17-95-201-208, will be
authorized to cultivate and/or possess and/or transport a combined total
of no more than 12 ounces of harvested, dried, culled and screened
Cannabis plant material, no more than 6 maturing female Cannabis plants.
The full text is at
http://www.gozarks.com/pdf/med_cannabis_act_2011_060610.pdf .
In January, they will introduce model
legislation to Arkansas Legislators for passage during the 2011 Arkansas
General Assembly. And since Norml emphasizes lobbying, helping them offers
us a great opportunity to do our best.
On January 12 & 13, 2011 we will be
participating in their Medicinal Cannabis Educational Roundhouse at
Arkansas State Capitol Rotunda, in Little Rock, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
both days. We will have a table there with information for legislators,
physicians, law enforcement officials and the general public. If you can,
please come and help man the table. We ask you to dress in business
informal to work the table and avoid any marijuana symbol T-shirts etc.
Though you can support them by buying their very cool limited-edition Sven
Swenson T-shirt and wear that. This is dress to impress for legislators
and physicians. We will not be promoting Marijuana Legalization, this is
strictly about Medical Cannabis. This event is free so invite your friends
to come as well.
But if you can't make it, there is
something very important you can do. We ask you to make a mere 7 phone
calls. Call or meet your state representative and your state senator and
urge them to support this legislation. Then call five of your friends,
tell them to call their state representative and their state senator
urging them to support this legislation, and then to call five of their
friends the way you called them. Your 5 calls become 25 which become 125
which become 625 and on.
All the information you'll need is at
http://www.gozarks.com/a4mc/ . There are PDFs that contain the artwork
for hand bills, business cards, letters from prominent doctors and more.
The message is simple. Ask your legislator
to vote Yes on the bill. Tell them that you are one of their constituents.
Tell them that it provides pain relief for people suffing spinal cord
injuries and other illnesses and speeds rehabilitation. Tell them that it
alleviates suffering without the side effects of narcotics. Tell them that
it allows patients who need to use narcotic pain reliever to use less.
Tell them that the taxes we pay should be used for education and health,
not arresting people. People can't pay taxes when they are locked up.
Don't be afraid to ask your friends and
relatives to help. You are not doing this so that you can enjoy cannabis.
You are doing this to alleviate the suffering of others with a proven,
safe and effective medical treatment. To ask others to support this does
not imply that they need to support legalization in general. This is an
issue of compassion, not an issue of indulgence. You need not lay low. The
people of A4MC include retired nurses and Lt. Colonels who served our
country in Desert Storm. This is a respectable issue.
