A Loving Grandpa...
The following came to me in an email from a true and patient friend <smile>. Enjoy....

A woman in a supermarket is following a grandfather and his badly behaved 3-year-old grandson. It's obvious to her that he has his hands full with the child screaming for sweets in the sweet aisle, cookies in the cookie aisle; and for fruit, cereal and pop in the other aisles.

Meanwhile, Granddad is working his way around, saying in a controlled voice, "Easy, William, we won't be long, easy, boy."

Another outburst, and she hears the granddad calmly say, "It's okay, William, just a couple more minutes and we'll be out of here. Hang in there, boy."

At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the cart,
and Granddad says again in a controlled voice, "William, William, relax buddy, don't get upset. We'll be home in five minutes; stay cool, William."

Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is
loading his groceries and the boy into the car.

She says to the elderly gentleman, "It's none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don't know how you did it. That whole time, you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay. William is very lucky to have you as his grandpa."

"Thanks," said the grandfather, "but I'm William .......the little
fucker's name is Kevin."

Seems to me that all involved in the (sad) unfoldment of events depicted in this youtube might wanna take notes from William and stop behaving like Kevin.

Does anyone besides me ever think about the fact that, in accordance with the covenants, liberties and duties vested in 'we the people' by the founders of our nation in their signing of the Declaration of Independence and as codified in the Constitution of the U.S.A., that the creation of a geographic bastion of sanity exempt from the obtuse regulation of any individual's 'peaceful' conduct was the sole purpose for creating this land that we (allegedly) love...???

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

This single sentence, allegedly among the best-known of the English language, articulates what experts have called "the most potent and consequential words in American history," representing the bedrock-moral-standard of the people of the United States.

Think on this... and on the fact that it is our duty to abide this highest law of our land with the unified purpose of making things good for everyone. everywhere, all of the time. (((hugs))) ~Christine

We are also pleased to announce that gozarks is now working as an Associate Producer & Broadcast Underwriting Specialist for KABF 88.3 "Voice of the People", which actually means that this is your ground-floor opportunity to get news and information about your good-works group, agency, business or faith-based organization 'out there' to a vigorously dedicated listening audience worldwide -and- support the whole concept of community-centered and locally produced radio programs.

And we remind you that In September this year, gozarks (aka: 'me' <smile>) will be a presenter on the agenda of the 4th Annual RSOL National Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My presentation will be on media & marketing strategy. I'm calling it "Meet the Press" <grin>. It will be an excellent program <smile>. Perhaps we will see each other there...???

BRAGGING RIGHTS

As all of gozarks long-time readers already know, my youngest son is a Petty Officer 3rd Class in the Navy (see column at right), my eldest son is a Field Services Supervisor with an aggregate manufacturer, my youngest daughter is a recent high school grad and now a manager in the retail foods service industry with an international chain, my middle daughter is the Marketing and Personal Relations Director with an international purveyor of mega-yacht stuff, and my eldest daughter (child of my first marriage and a full generation ahead of her younger 1/2 siblings) subsequent to this little pictorial from nearly a decade ago, went on to aggregate sufficient points to earn the title of #1 national Women's Amateur Championship Motocross Racer and, now retired from the sport, is pursuing her passion for videography and the performance arts.

Cumulatively, this gives me a manager, a supervisor, a director, an officer and a champion on 'my team' <smile>. It is a crew of which any parent would be hugely proud... and in light of these shining credentials, we are all here to tell you that getting to where we've gotten has taken hard (often sweaty and exhausting) work, tenacious dedication (sometimes mandating the making of decisions we would have preferred not to make but requisite to maintaining our respective individual and collective well-being) and a profoundly pervasive loyalty to each other's happiness, which is ultimately what makes the whole thing work.

That said, I will -- politely, in humility and with earnest respect -- keep on tooting our own horn... trusting that this will not be misunderstood as braggadocios by clearly stating that my intent and purpose is simply to communicate living examples of the qualities inherent to the 'good life' we all enjoy which -- contrary to the hardships, injustices, maltreatment, abuse, ignorance, arrogance and bullying obstacles that convolute everyone's shared macrocosm -- anyone can and may enjoy...

And it takes 'work'... however, what takes the most work is simply 'choosing' and then refusing to settle for anything less than 'the finest of the best'... (((hugs))) ~Christine

August 4, 2012: Phone chats reveal that all is well with my Navy son, though the days are long, often exhausting, and life is sometimes 'boring'. In the main, he is enjoying what he is doing, actually now getting a sense of 'doing' moreso than 'learning how to do'...

He spoke with excitement and dignity about having resolved an issue with some type of amplified shipboard broadcast device. I could tell that he was proud of this accomplishment, which made me even more proud of him.

 

May 2012: A marksmanship test score of 228 to 240 = "Expert" status in the Navy.  My IC3 writes:

"I got a 231 with the 9mm."

January 2012: "I have an update for you, I was frocked today. The Commanding Officer and Command Master Chief of my ship pinned on my E-4 insignia so I am officially a 3rd class petty officer instead of ICFN. I am addressed as IC3 which is a lot easier to say every time I have to answer the phone (lol). I will send you a pic of what the insignia looks like. It is will be displayed on all of my uniforms after I have them all updated when we get back to land. Any way it's hard to believe how long Iíve been in, the time has really flown by."

He enlisted over two years ago on the delayed entry program, spent months in training to prepare for bootcamp from which he graduated late in October 2010 and is now stationed aboard the USS Chancellorsville with the homeport of San Diego, California.
