VOTER-ED “DOUBLE HEADER”

NEWS RELEASE
October 22, 2002


Two separate “voter education” assemblies are set for this coming week.

The first meeting, set for 6pm to 9pm, Thursday, October 24, at the Petit
Jean Electric Cooperative Community Room in Clinton, will focus on two
ballot initiatives and will be emceed by Don Richardson of Clinton.

Lyndon Poole, head of Citizens for a Humane Arkansas, and Claude “Tubby”
Smith, Vice President of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association, will address
pro/con issues of the “Arkansas Animal Cruelty Act” which proposes tougher
penalties for the mistreatment of animals.

Robert Reed, Vice Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Arkansas, and Dr.
Harry Ward, Chair of APPLES, will speak for and against the “Axe the Tax”
ballot initiative which would eliminate sales tax from the retail purchase
of groceries.

The second meeting, set to start at 7pm, Monday, October 28, at the Woodmen
of the World building on Main Street in Clinton, will be a candidates forum
where voters will have the opportunity to meet political office seekers and
ask questions about their respective positions on various topics. Emcee for
this meeting will be Larry Williams of Bee Branch.

Both information meetings are free and open to the public. Coordinated by
the Ozark Liberty Alliance (OLA), a “nonpartisan, non-political,
nonsectarian” education association, all voters and candidates are
welcome and encouraged to attend.
