| Page Two -- The Ozark Heritage Arts Center (OHAC) 2nd Annual Summer Arts Program. NOTE: This page has a bushel of photos and may take some time to load, but it's worth it!!!
Above: T-shirt makers take the stage to show-off their wearable art. Other segments of the all day programs explored the fundamentals of songwriting, folk dancing, and the Origami art of paper folding. Children also got to dress-up in oriental kimonos and sample roasted seaweed. Below: Shawna holds an Origami crane.
During the musical portion of the program, students learned to sing the song ''Tell Me Why'' with their voices and with the hand signs of American Sign Language.
Above: Under the direction of Laura Clark, students ''sing and sign'' on the OHAC stage. Below: Students sing-sign the word ''sky'' from the phrase ''Tell me why the sky is blue.''
Also in the musical appreciation category, celebrated fiddler Merle Reeves and members of his talented family (pictured below) entertained workshop participants with a variety of American folk tunes.
Social learning, though not a structured element of the program, provided an additional measure of fun for the children, especially during the daily lunch and snack routine.
Below: Susan Vorwald (left), Searcy County Literacy Council program coordinator, and several of her co-workers (not pictured) helped OHAC volunteers supervise the students during lunch hour as Eva Harrell, OHAC Executive Director, served-up beverages donated to the Arts program by local merchants.
