Subject: Davis family that owned property a few miles east of Bee Branch.  Felix G. Davis acquired the property around 1860.  He had a family of 11 children, one of whom, (Daniel W. Davis), was my great grandfather.  I would like to find out more about the descendants of Felix, who they were and where they may be now if that is possible.  I will be driving up to Clinton in the next week or so and I would appreciate any assistance or guidance I could get to help in my research.

My Email address is jadoak@pine-net.com

Her mother, Eula Lee (Holley) Suggs' family lived on Holley Mountain.  Here is a list of surnames I am researching: Bradfords, Fisher, Holley, Jennings and Suggs.

Any or all information that you could assist me with on this matter would be very much appreciated. Contact me Wendy Maxey nonniegay2002@yahoo.com.

Subject: Viola Dunn Searching for BURDETT ORGAN THE HOBART M. CABLE COMPANY UNLIITED GUARANTEE INDEMNITY CERTIFICATE 1908- 1940,S My grandparents Addison “Ad” & Leticia J. WEST Ingram were the owners of this organ. Grandpa “Ad” passed away on April 3, 1940. Their youngest daughter Pearl & husband Alton came by car and took Grandma and Aunt Welthey to California so she and her sisters could take care of them. The Burdett Organ & many other items were left in their old log cabin home at Woolum, Van Buren Co. AR. Their son Alvin who owned a home near them was given permission to take care of the things left in her home. Sometime later between 1940 & 1942 My Daddy either sold or gave the organ away. It is believed that someone in Van Buren Co. or Searcy Co. received the organ, but it could have been given to someone living in another county. Pearl who had kept the certificate all these years passed away July 5, 2004, her daughter Gloria now has the certificate. She would like to know who got the organ & if it is still in someone’s home. Gloria wants to give the certificate to the owner if can prove identity.

If there is anyone out there that remembers this organ and who owned it after Grandma moved to California please write call or email.

Subject: Searching for Ozment family members.
Hello,I am a member of the Grayson county Ky. Historical society. I recently acquired a box of old photos from the estate of a dr. who practiced here for about 50 years. The doctors name was William Lee Ozment, he was from Illinois. He had a brother in Arkansas named Elvis W. Ozment. Elvis' wife went by the name of Ethal. They had at least 3 children one named Marvin Lee Ozment. I have a picture of Marvin Lee at about 1 year of age dated 1-3-1915 also on the photo is Clinton Ark. Dr. Ozment had no children and no family here in Ky. I am trying to find a descendant from another branch of his family who would like to have these photos. I have about 100 photos and only about 4 of them have any identification as to who they are. Marvin Lee Ozment (the child in the 1915 photo) I found listed in a Saline county Ark. cemetery. It seems he may have remained close this his home so there may be some descendants there also.

Can you help me ? Are there any Ozments still in your area?
Thanks,
Mike Fleener

Subject: Imboden, AR, Ida Pearl Counts.
Looking for a newspaper write up regarding my husbands mother who was killed in a car crash in the Ozarks in Imboden, Arkansas on Route 2 (Near Walnut Ridge) back on August 21, 1951. She supposedly was working for Gene Autry Studios. My husband was only 9 years old at the time and living with his father, as his parents were estranged. He would very much like to find this article and read the story and circumstances behind her death so many years ago. Can you possibly tell me where I could look, what newspapers were available then etc.

Any information you can provide, will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Alice Counts

Subject: Butler/Huggins Family
My name is James Cleo Huggins. My father, James Mason Huggins left Van Buren County, (Shirley area) in the early 1900s. Most likely 1915-1920. I know that his father was John Huggins, his grandfather was Andrew Jackson Huggins. He migrated to Perry County along with a brother, three or four sisters and possibly my grandparents. His first wife died in childbirth. He married my mother in Perry County about 1924.

The writer, James Cleo Huggins, son, James Carroll Huggins and grandson, Jonathan Huggins are the only males of that branch of the family living. I have one half-sister, Velva Huggins Camp still living. My mother was married to a Butler who died around 1920. I am the only child of her union with James Mason Huggins.

We will welcome any who would like to come and visit with us and re-establish old ties. I visited the Shirley area twice in my lifetime so I have very little memory of people there.

Thank you,
Cleo Huggins, e-mail, cehuggins@ocsnet.net

Subject: W.T. (Bill) Gibbons
I visited your town of Shirley on May 31, 2002. It is a very nice little town. My grandfather lived there, Elijah W. Brown and his wife Elvira Brown. Their daughter Sarah Brown married W.T.(Bill) Gibbons, their daughter Alta Gibbons/Gibbins (Gibbins on marriage certificate) married Zack Haynes, who moved to Jefferson County, Ar. Zack Haynes, as I have been told, helped build the first jail house in Shirley. Got pictures of it, I feel sorry for anyone put in it.

While asking directions in Clinton, I stopped at a realtors office to find the Bradford cemetery. With luck that day I found my 3rd cousin, Jerel Brown son of Hugh Brown. I was elated. They showed me around Shirley, it was really a high light of my life. Everyone we met was super nice.

I you searching if you run across any information on W.T. (Bill) Gibbons and family, I would love for you to pass it along to me, also the Browns families. I will be happy to pay for any cost.

I plan to return next year if possible.

On February 8, 2003, I met my friend Darrell Jones at a restaurant south of Shirley, Arkansas. We had not seen each other since February of 1956 in San Diego, California, after we completed Navy Boot Camp. It was sure nice to get reacquainted over a cup of coffee . I look forward to returning and I would recommend it as a good place to eat or just to visit with nice people that come in . The management were very nice.

Subject: County Courthouses
I am writing articles about all of the courthouses in Arkansas and their history.  I know that Van Buren's county seat was once located in Bloomington and then George Counts, through a petition had it moved to Clinton.  I've tried to find out who George Counts was (a judge maybe?) and why people wanted the county seat moved.  Was Clinton a bigger town at the time? I would appreciate any help you can give.

Hello, my name is Linda Rowe.  My great grand father, Ira Bliss Cook, was born in Archey, Ark., Van Buren County on Sept. 7th, 1882 and passed away on Aug. 8th, 1967.  He is buried in the Bluffton Cemetery near Clinton, Ark. I appreciate any information that you can give me.  Thanks and God Bless.

Subject: NEED INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEAGUE FAMILY IN CLINTON OR THE COOK FAMILY.
From: "Barnhill" barnhill@ipa.net

Letter from a reader:

I was researching in Clinton on Wed., June 6th, and would like to thank Mr. McKnight, Dortha Borecky, Sharon Baker, and especially Sally Parish for their help.  Under their direction, I was able to collect two generations of data regarding my great-grandmother, Ellen Parrish Steward, daughter of James Parish, son of Billie Parish.

I purchased The Life of John Peterson Parish (1811-1889) by Bert Stark Jr.   It has wonderful photographs of the Morganton cemetery where relatives of my ancestors are buried.  Thank you for making these publications available.

I also purchased the 1880 US Federal Census of Van Buren County Arkansas with complete index. Although I had copied the listing for Elizzabeth Parish, widow of James Parish, something told me to buy a hardcopy of the census to peruse at my leisure.  And I am so thankful that I followed that instinct!

I have discovered a listing in the 1880 Census of Van Buren Co. that has been transcribed in error!  On page 71, the listing for household #70, the head of household is listed as "Manel Stwat".  The correct transcription should be "Mansel Stewart."  This is the same man who purchased a license to marry Ellen Parish, daughter of James Parish, on Nov. 18, 1879 and filed for an original homestead on April 22, 1901.  I am confident that this is the same man, because my oral family history includes the names of the sisters (Aunts "Nance" and "Bash") who were living with Mansel and Ellen (and his mother and aunt) following their marriage.

I do not know who should be notified to correct this error in transcription, but if there is anybody to whom you can pass this information, please do so.

Sincerely,

Sheila Hale
